Dye Water Testing Will Turn Underwood Creek Green

As a part of efforts to reduce the rainwater and other clearwater entering into the sanitary sewer system, the City of Wauwatosa has retained the services of a consultant to perform dye water testing of sewers in the area between Watertown Plank Road and Diane Drive. This work is scheduled to start the week of April 21 and will be ongoing until August 15, actual work is weather dependent.
The procedure consists of filling the storm sewer system with non-toxic bright colored dye. The contractor will then video the City’s sanitary sewers adjacent to the storm sewer to look for sources of dyed water entering the sanitary sewer system.
When completed, the dyed water will be released into the downstream storm sewer system which drains to Underwood Creek turning the water green. Again this is a non-toxic dye and will dissipated over a short period of time.
