Once a job posting has ended, the Human Resources Department will screen all applications received. The City reserves the right to invite only the best qualified candidates to continue in the selection process. The selection process will be job-related and will consist of one or more of the following: training and experience evaluation, written, oral or performance tests. Once an examination has been administered, all candidates will be notified by mail of whether they passed the exam or not. Those passing the exam may be invited back for an interview and/or additional testing. The City reserves the right to call back those that score the highest on the examination for additional testing. The City of Wauwatosa generally narrows the list of candidates down to the top ten. This list is presented to and approved by the Civil Service Commission. Some positions are not governed by Civil Service rules and do not have to be approved by the Civil Service Commission. The supervisor of the hiring department will make his/her selection from this list of ten.
