Administration

The Administration Department consists of the Mayor and City Administrator. In addition to providing management and leadership for the City, several programs are operated directly by the Administration department.

Assessor

The Assessor's Office prepares the annual assessment roll. Assessed values determine the amount of general property tax charged to each property owner.


City Attorney

The City Attorney's Office provides comprehensive legal advice to Common Council, the Mayor, and the City Departments regarding municipal ordinances and resolutions, liability, contracts, and federal and state laws.

City Clerk

The City Clerk's office manages a wide range of responsibilities such as keeping the official proceedings of the city, maintaining official city documents, and overseeing elections and voter regsitration.


Community Development

The Department of Community Development is comprised of two divisions: Buildings & Safety and City Planning. The purpose of the community development department is to regulate building and development in a safe and orderly fashion.

Finance

This department collects all property tax payments, coordinates the budget development process, and provides the necessary fiduciary oversight for all the City's financial operations.


Fire

The Fire Department provides comprehensive fire fighting and emergency medical services. Additionally, the Fire department is always actively engaged in fire prevention efforts through its public education work in the community.

Health

The Health Department offers comprehensive health services from immunizations, to tobacco cessation programs, and special prgrams for woman, infants and children, and older adults.


Human Resources

The Human Resources Department is responsible for the recruitment and selection process for City personnel. Additionally, the Human Resources Department maintains all information about employee benefits and provides general training for city employees.

Library

The Wauwatosa Library provides access to over 700,000 volumes of books, hundreds of journals and magazines, and a comprehensive video and music selection for City and County residents.


Municipal Court

Wauwatosa Municipal Court, presided by the Honorable Richard J. Baker, is held every Monday and Wednesday evening starting at 5:15 p.m. at Wauwatosa City Hall, 7725 W. North Avenue, Wauwatosa.

Parks and Forestry

Police

The Police Department, with 91 sworn officers, provides law enforcement and protection services, and dozens of community outreach programs such as the neighborhood block watch and graffitti removal programs.

Public Works

The Public Works Department oversees all the garbage collection and recycling operations, street design and construction, park and forestry maintenance, street lights and signage, and fleet maintenance for all city vehicles.


Purchasing

The Purchasing Department works to ensure the City purhases products and services for the best possible price.

Water

The Water Utility is responsible for the safe and efficient distribution of water service to all the residential and commercial properties in the City.
