The Wauwatosa Police Department works to solve problems within the community, protect the rights of all people, and treat all citizens in a respectful manner. 

The Department, headed by the Chief of Police, is divided into two main bureaus, the Operations Bureau and the Administrative Bureau, each commanded by a Captain. 

The Operations Bureau consists of the Patrol Division, Investigative Division, and Community Support Division.  The divisions of the Administrative Bureau are Records, Front Office, Jail, Personnel and Training, Communications, Property/Equipment Division, Payroll, Information Systems, and Fleet Maintenance.
