Fire Hydrant Flushing
Fire Hydrant Flushing is performed twice a year, in spring and fall, and throughout the year as needed. Flushing is done to improve water quality at the tap, exercise hydrants and remove any sediment that may cause discolored water. If you do experience some harmless discoloration in your water we recommend running the cold water for several minutes to help clear the discoloration before using it for drinking or laundry.
The Water Utility operates and maintains fire hydrants on a regular basis. When hydrants are flushed they are also inspected for defects and repaired or replaced as necessary. By inspecting fire hydrants, the Utility ensures that they are able to provide fire protection to our customers.
