69th and North Ave in Wauwatosa celebrates urban development
The City of Wauwatosa invites residents and visitors to join us at the new ‘Pedestrian Plaza’ located at 69th and North Avenue on June 14, 6:00 pm where we’ll celebrate the opening of this public space.
The 69th Street Plaza project is a product of the “East Tosa North Avenue Plan” that provided a coordinated approach to the continued, positive development of North Avenue. A major goal of the plaza project was to create a destination that provided value and enjoyment to the East Tosa businesses, neighbors, and customers. The plaza also accommodates the need for parking in the area, improves storm water drainage with its permeable pavement, and supports urban forestry efforts with the newly planted trees and landscaping.
The plaza project was designed by Smith Group JJR and constructed by Blaze Landscaping. The plaza features lounge chairs, picnic tables, a lit canopy structure, benches, a public drinking fountain with a water bottle filler and pet fountain, a “TOSA” bike rack, a bike fix-it-station, and parking.
“We all want to build something that lasts beyond us, it means everything to me now that my 8 years of public service is over to visit the 69th Street plaza and see neighbors chatting and working and children running around and enjoying this phenomenal public space,” said former Alderman Bobby Pantuso.
