Election Signs in Residential Yards

What are the options for placing an election sign in my yard?
Post Date:08/22/2018 4:12 PM

In Wauwatosa, you can choose to display signs in support of a particular issue or candidate. We also want to preserve our property values as it relates to aesthetics and property maintenance.

With that balance in mind, we want to outline what Wauwatosa supports related to election, candidate or issue signs in residential yards. We do not define signs by their content - only by time, size, and location.

  • You can display a yard sign that is set back at least five feet from any lot line.
  • The sign cannot be over 12 square feet in size.
  • Signs that are freestanding in your front or side yard cannot be taller than 4.5 feet.
  • Signs cannot be illuminated or have any electrical, mechanical or audio attached to it.

Remember that these signs are not placed in the public right-of-way.

There are similar requirements for signs within a business district or on a wall.
