Piloting a New Vacuum-Based Leaf Collector
A neighborhood on the west side of Wauwatosa will see a new leaf collection machine this fall
A neighborhood on the west side of Wauwatosa will see a new leaf collection machine this fall. We are piloting a vacuum-based collector in this area only. There are many benefits to this new machine:
- This only requires two workers instead of three to four. The other maintenance workers can be available for other job assignments.
- We no longer have to bunch leaves during the night prior to pick-up which means a quieter neighborhood for you.
- We will save on fuel with less trips to Public Works.
- This machine is more efficient and requires less maintenance than a rear-loading refuse truck (which we currently use).
We're excited to measure these savings this season and share results from our pilot test.
For all of Wauwatosa - You may continue to rake leaves out to the street until Sunday, November 18. Check our interactive leaf collection map to see the schedule. During leaf collection we generally make three passes through the City with one final collection occurring after the final rake out deadline.
