One lane traffic on Wauwatosa Avenue in front of Tosa East High School

Post Date:06/04/2019 2:58 PM

Update as of June 5, 9 am

AT&T field workers are continuing fiber splicing operations to repair the damaged fiber cable(s).  Unfortunately, the nature of repairing individual glass fiber strands is a very tedious and time consuming operation.  After the repair of the cables, the contractor will restore the road. This involves pouring wet concrete slurry to the bottom of existing pavement and waiting 24 hours for it to cure. Then the contractor has to drill tie-bars on all sides of excavation and place additional concrete to finish the street and let it cure.

The best case scenario is that the work is complete by Saturday, June 10. If the work takes longer, the one-lane traffic control plan will be in place until Tuesday, June 11.

Original Article

While boring across Wauwatosa Avenue, a private contractor hit an AT&T fiber optic line in front of Wauwatosa East High School on Tuesday, June 4. Due to the high volume of internet traffic on this fiber optic line, AT&T needs to perform an emergency excavation repair. For the safety of the workers, pedestrians, and drivers, traffic will be reduced to one lane on Wauwatosa Avenue in each direction. This lane closure is only near the intersection of Wauwatosa Avenue and Milwaukee Avenue. Turning left onto Milwaukee Avenue from either direction from Wauwatosa Ave will be restricted until the repair is complete.

After excavation, AT&T crews will be performing fiber splicing operations throughout the evening. At this time, the extent of damage and amount of time to make repair is unknown.

We anticipate having one lane of traffic for now. When we know more about the timeline, we will update this article.

We apologize for the inconvenience. It may take a few minutes longer, particularly during busy times of the day, to travel along this route.
