What does a Change of Assessment Notice look like?
Every property owner will receive a change of assessment notice in the mail this year because of the revaluation
A property assessment shows the value of your property in a given year. In mid-August, every property owner (residential and business) will receive a change of assessment notice even if your property value has not changed.
The change of assessment notice shows you the value of you property based on our revaluation of properties across the city. This is not a tax bill. We are required by the State of Wisconsin to periodically revalue all property to keep pace with changes in the real estate market.
During a revaluation, we value all properties across the city using common data and statistical testing. In other words, our assessment is not an individual property analysis. We make value adjustments where necessary to guarantee that all property is fairly assessed. This ensures that taxes are distributed equitably.

The notice also has details about the process for appealing your property value. If you don't have questions about your assessment, you don't have to take any action. If you have questions about your assessment, please contact the Assessor's Office by phone (414-479-8969) or email.
You can also schedule an appointment during Open Book Period (August 12 - September 12, 2019). We will not be accepting walk-ins. We ask that people make an appointment to ensure that we have ample time to address your concerns. If you anticipate scheduling an appointment, it's beneficial to you to schedule this sooner rather than later within the Open Book Period.
