Milwaukee County Submits Materials Related to Sanctuary Woods
Milwaukee County submitted a Certified Survey Map to subdivide the area known as the Sanctuary Woods
Milwaukee County submitted a Certified Survey Map to subdivide the area known as the Sanctuary Woods (approximately 9200 Watertown Plank Road). They also submitted a zoning map amendment that proposes rezoning the area from "Special Purpose District - Medical Center" to "Special Purpose District - Conservation."
The applications will be discussed at the October 7, 6:00 pm Plan Commission meeting. You can go to the Meeting Portal to see the agenda and video when it's posted.
The Common Council adopted the Wauwatosa Life Sciences District Master Plan on December 18, 2018. The community and Common Council expressed a shared vision needed to implement this plan: the preservation of the open space commonly called Sanctuary Woods. The Wauwatosa Life Sciences District Master Plan calls for the City to zone this land as Special Purpose District - Conservancy. In order for this to occur, the County, as the property owner, had to apply for a Certified Survey Map to subdivide the area and a zoning map amendment (for the purpose of putting in protections such as conservation easements).
