The City of Wauwatosa is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark Hammond as its new Development Director.

Mark Hammond previously served as the Vice President of Development for MSP Real Estate and Heritage Senior Living, where he spearheaded over a dozen large-scale housing developments, including a majority affordable housing development in Wauwatosa’s Mayfair Collection area. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in economics from UW-Madison, an MBA in real estate finance from the Wisconsin School of Business, and a JD from the University of Wisconsin Law School. Hammond has volunteered as a member of Wauwatosa’s Community Development Authority (CDA) since 2018, during which time it assisted several important projects including the purchase and redevelopment plans for the former Boston Store, supporting dozens of small businesses with forgivable loans, and ongoing redevelopment efforts of CDA-owned properties like Mt. Tosa (former landfill), 6330 W North Avenue and 7746 Menomonee River Parkway.

“Mark's extensive experience in senior and affordable housing projects is particularly exciting for our community,” said Mayor Dennis McBride. “His creative, forward-thinking, and thoughtful approach to housing in today's challenging market demonstrates his commitment to ensuring that residents have access to affordable and comfortable living options. We are confident that Mark will bring innovative solutions and a fresh perspective to our city's development efforts, and we look forward to the positive impact he will make.”

Hammond is eager to begin his work in Wauwatosa and has outlined a vision focused on sustainable development, community engagement, and economic growth. "I am honored to join a dedicated group of co-workers to serve our vibrant community by collaborating with residents, businesses, developers, and elected officials to continue our current forward momentum," said Hammond.

Per city ordinance, the Common Council confirms this appointment, which happened on July 2. Hammond will start September 3.

Hammond resides in Wauwatosa with his wife and two children.
