Wauwatosa is moving toward a decision on the future of its Library and City Hall building. This May, the Common Council will review multiple concepts for the remodel of the Library and City Hall building - a project that has been the subject of community conversation for over a decade.

The current facility has not seen a significant remodel since 1992. After a space needs analysis and community engagement (see a history of past meetings and studies), the project moved forward last year when the Common Council directed the city to hire a construction management firm. Their task was to move beyond abstract ideas and outline concrete, actionable concepts that address the aging infrastructure and modern service needs of the community.

We'll get first looks at the concepts in May, but no decisions will be made at that time.

Public Engagement Timeline

  • The Unveiling (May 12): Multiple versions of the remodel will be presented to the Common Council. These designs explore different ways to balance functionality, cost, and community needs.
  • State of the City (May 14): Attendees of the State of the City event will see the concepts in person.
  • Feedback Window (May – July): Over summer, we'll ask the public for feedback on the concepts.
  • Common Council Direction (End of July): Public feedback will be synthesized and presented back to the Common Council in July. The Common Council is anticipated to make a decision about the project.

We'll share a project website soon with more in-depth information.
