The City of Wauwatosa has been awarded a significant state innovation grant, providing $4,563,070 annually for the next five years, subject to continued participation in the state grant program. Over five years, the grant could bring more than $22.8 million to the City, creating a once-in-a-generation opportunity to invest in Wauwatosa's future.

The grant funding will allow the City to advance major priorities while strengthening its long-term financial position. Rather than relying solely on local tax dollars, Wauwatosa can make strategic investments that improve City facilities, reduce future costs, and deliver lasting value for residents. 

This funding supports the planned Milwaukee Metro Fire Rescue merger, which will allow the City to continue delivering the high level of emergency service residents expect while sharing costs more efficiently. Another opportunity under consideration is the planned remodel of the Wauwatosa Public Library and City Hall, a community space that serves more than 1,000 people every day.

To ensure these dollars have the greatest long-term impact, City staff will recommend a fund use policy to the Common Council in July. The proposed policy would reserve the grant for strategic, one-time investments that strengthen the City's financial future.
