An occupancy permit provides quality assurance that a building or part of a building is in substantial compliance with minimum health and safety regulations enforced by the Building & Safety Division. It is unlawful to use or permit the use of any building or premises without first obtaining a certificate of occupancy. A certificate of occupancy is required for all new residential and commercial buildings and any addition, change of use, business, or tenant in a commercial building.
Fees are charged to offset the cost of providing inspection services. The City of Wauwatosa's permit fees are one of the lowest in the Milwaukee metro area. The fee / inspection charge is usually a flat rate fee depending on the use of the property.
Submit a completed occupancy permit application form and the permit fee to the Building & Safety Division. Make check payable to the City of Wauwatosa.
