The Wauwatosa Fire Department is an all hazards public safety organization that exists to keep the community of Wauwatosa safe. We will maintain a high level of preparedness through; intensive training, strong leadership, and proven strategies, applied by high quality personnel. We value a philosophy of lifelong learning and will embrace best practices.
Can I burn items outdoors?
You can, but it should be confined to manufactured portable fireplaces with the lid on to prevent sparks or embers from escaping. Burning must be done at least 25 feet away from any:
- dry grass
- other combustible materials
You should keep a fire extinguisher or garden hose within reach.
You cannot burn:
- yard waste
- waste materials from construction projects
- other items designated by order of the Wauwatosa Fire Department
