Due to the ongoing federal government shutdown, FoodShare benefits will be paused on November 1st.
Any benefits currently on your FoodShare card can be used in November. Benefits will not be removed, and you can continue to use existing benefits to buy food during the shutdown. However, new benefits will not be issued until the shutdown ends.

Making a Donation
The Wauwatosa Health Department is partnering with the Milwaukee City/County Food Drive to help support residents in Wauwatosa facing food insecurity. Local hunger relief organizations NourishMKE and Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin are coordinating monetary donations and non-perishable food donations throughout the County. You can donate to either organization to support our community.
Donation bins are located at both the Wauwatosa Library and the Health Department.
Non-perishable food items are accepted, including:
- Proteins:
- Canned or pouch tuna
- Salmon
- Chicken
- Canned beans (black, kidney, white, pinto, etc.)
- Dried beans and lentils
- Nut butter (peanut, almond, etc.)
- Nuts and seeds (unsalted)
- Canned soup, stew, chili, and curry
- Beef jerky
- Fruits and vegetables
- Canned vegetables (low sodium or no salt added)
- Canned or dried fruit (in juice water or water, not syrup)
- Canned tomatoes, tomato sauce, or paste
- Applesauce (unsweetened)
- Grains and starches
- Rice (brown or white)
- Pasta (whole grain or whole wheat)
- Oats (rolled or steel-cut)
- Whole-grain cereal
- Quinoa or barley
- Popcorn kernels
- Pantry staples and other items
- Cooking oil
- Spice, herbs, and salt-free blends
- Condiments
- Coffee or tea
- Honey
- Baking ingredients like flour
